ABSENCES

  • If your child is absent, please call the school office between 8 and 9:30 a.m. Homework requests should be done at this time. If a call has not been received, a school official will make an attempt to call the parent. A written excuse is required when a child returns.

TARDINESS

  • If your child is tardy, he/she must report to the office before entering the classroom. A note regarding a tardy is required.

BUILDING HOURS

  • Students line up at their assigned entrance door on the playground at approximately 8:45 a.m. Students should not arrive before that time. Students will enter the building at 8:52 a.m. Students are not permitted to enter the building after 3:00 p.m. without school staff supervision.

BUSES

  • Bus transportation is provided for all students living outside of the walking area. Parents are requested to take time to read the School Bus Regulation Handbook.

CALLS TO SCHOOL

  • If you wish to talk to a teacher by phone, please call before 8:50 a.m. or between 3:00-3:30 p.m. if at all possible. Unless it is an emergency please do not call the school to give messages to the students.

HOMEWORK

  • The assignment of homework is the responsibility of the teacher. Homework policies have been discussed with you at "Meet the Teacher Night". Homework policies should be signed and returned to school.

LUNCH PROGRAM

  • Hot lunches are served each day. Cost of a school lunch is $2.85. Milk may be purchased for $.50. Ice cream is also available for purchase. Prepaid lunch passes may be purchased at the school office.

CLINIC

  • A nurse is on duty all day on Wednesday and Thursday. A health aide is on duty all day Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Students who become ill are sent or escorted to the clinic. No medication will be administered to a student without a permission form signed by a physician. Please do not send in medication with a student. Medication must be brought in by an adult. The State of Ohio requires a Health Immunization Record and an Emergency Medical Record on file for each student.

PUPIL PERSONNEL SERVICES

  • A Speech Therapist, Counselor, Occupational Therapist, and School Psychologist are available to help individual students if requested by the teacher or parent.

PUPIL PROGRESS

  • Your child's progress is monitored continuously. Report cards will be sent home with students in November, February, April and June. Check the district calendar for dates.  You can monitor your child's progress anytime throughout the school year, on PowerSchool.  Please log into the Parent Portal, under the 'Parents' link, at the top of this webpage.  If you need help accessing your account, please contact the main office (440) 942-5944.

CONFERENCES

  • Conferences are held in November and February.  All students will have a conference scheduled in November.  Conferences in February are by parent or teacher request.  Not all students will have a conference in February.  Please check the school calendar on our website for conference dates.   

FIELD TRIPS

  • Sometime during the school year your child may go on a field trip.  Permission  slips will be sent home informing you of the day and destination of the  field trip. Field trip permission forms must be filled out completely.  

SAFETY

  • For security reasons doors will be locked throughout the day. Please follow directions on the front door if you wish to enter the building during those hours.

FEES

  • Book fees will be incurred during the school year. You will be notified. Please send money/checks to the school in an envelope marked with your child’s name.

FIRE/TORNADO DRILLS

  • Fire and Tornado Drills are held once a month. Your child will be instructed on fire and tornado drill procedures.

NEWSLETTER

  • School events as well as community events are published in the Grant Newsletter. The newsletter is published every other week and can be accessed online.

PARENT VISITS

  • Parents are encouraged to visit the school. We request that you sign in and pick up a visitor badge. Please return the badge when you leave.

PTO

  • We have many participating parents at Grant. All parents are encouraged to attend PTO meetings held each month.  Please check the calendar on our website for meeting dates and times.                                                                                           

CHILD CARE                                         

  • Before and after school child care is provided by the YMCA.   Please click on the 'Child Care (YMCA)' link on our website for forms required by the YMCA.  Please remember to print out a paper copy of each form and turn this in to the YMCA administrator in our building.                                   

DISCIPLINE

  • Each student is expected to follow the Willoughby-Eastlake Student Code of Conduct to ensure a safe learning environment. The Code of Conduct can be found on the district website as well as a tab on our site.

EARLY DISMISSAL

  • Early dismissal requires a note to the school office. Parents must sign their child out in the office.

WALKERS

  • Walkers are expected to go directly home after school unless a note from a parent directs otherwise. Walkers or children being dropped off in the morning should not arrive before 8:45 a.m.

BICYCLES

  • Students may ride to school with a written permission. Bikes are not to be ridden on school grounds and must be parked in the proper location. The school is not responsible for theft or damage. Licensing is recommended.

WITHDRAWAL FROM SCHOOL

  • If a student moves to another school district, please advise the school office as soon as possible. This will allow a smooth withdrawal transition. Any money owed for damaged or lost books or other obligations must be paid for before records will be forwarded to the new school. Also, any change of information i.e. phone, custody, address should be reported to the school office so the student file may be kept updated.

VALUABLE ITEMS

  • Personal valuable items are not permitted at school. This includes electronic games. The school is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen items. Students should only bring to school items needed in the classroom.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS

  • Willoughby-Eastlake Schools will make every effort to keep schools in session. In the event of inclement weather, please check your local television stations for closing updates.
