Kindergarten

Kindergarten at Royalview is an all-day, every-day program!

Fundations is our primary source of phonics instruction in kindergarten, with McGraw-Hill Wonders Reading directing the literature side of the program. We also incorporate Phonics in Motion, a kinesthetic learning approach that reinforces letter sounds by assigning a motion to each sound. When used in conjunction with our phonics program, it enhances student learning. Our math program, My Math, uses manipulatives to foster the development of number sense, basic math, and problem solving skills. It creates a solid foundation for future mathematical growth and development in students.

Hands-on learning and exploration is a focal point of our kindergarten program. We incorporate many strategies to keep our students interested and motivated. We use a combination of whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction each day. Classrooms are Daily 5-based. The Daily 5™ is a series of independent literacy tasks which students complete daily while the teacher meets with small groups or confers with individuals. It is a structure that will help students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, and working with peers that will lead to a lifetime of independent literacy.

In kindergarten, students learn about seasons/weather, living/nonliving things, and sound through the Pearson science program. Students are also immersed in technology. Each room has a SmartBoard with which students interact daily, and each class goes to the computer lab for an hour per week as well. Our classes do offer art activities as well as music, gym, and library.

We also find it is essential to include families in the learning experience. By working together, we can provide your child with a wonderful and engaging kindergarten learning experience. Our goal is to help your child develop the academic and social skills necessary to become a successful first grader!
