Positive Behavior Support - Kindergarten through fifth grade

Dear Edison Families,

The staff of Edison has worked together to create a safe and positive learning system that will be initiated in the 2011-2012 school year. The PBS is a process for cresting safer and more effective schools by structuring the learning environment to support the academics and develop positive character traits. We are excited to have the system work building wide to create a behavior system the supports higher learning levels. PBS methods are research=based and prove to significantly reduce the occurrence of problem behaviors in the schools.
The goal of PBS is to focus on five positive Character traits in different areas of the school. We want our students to SOAR

  • Safe
  • Organized
  • Attitude
  • Respect and Responsibility

We will focus on the following areas of the building for our PBS:
  • Latchkey
  • Restroom
  • Classroom
  • Bus
  • Recess
  • Library
  • Cafeteria
The students will be shown expected behaviors through videos created by our students and PBS team. These videos model expected behaviors in different areas of the school. Students at Edison Elementary can earn "Eagle Bucks" for demonstrating positive behaviors throughout the school. At eh end of each , week, month and quarter, the students can redeem their "Eagle bucks" for rewards. They can be found at the bottom of this page.

The students have always learned to soar at Edison, but with the addition of this system they will S.O.A.R. even further. In order to help remind them of the system will will say the school's new promise or pledge:

S.O.A.R. Promise

Today I will S.O.A.R.;

I will be safe, organized, have a good attitude and be respectful and responsible.

Below you will find several helpful documents about the system including rewards and consequences that go along with the program.
