Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools News Article

Welcome Back from Superintendent Thompson

As we begin the year there are many exciting changes to celebrate.  We have begun to see the impact of our bond issue that was passed in November of 2015.  During the summer months, the roofs were completed at Eastlake Middle School and Jefferson Elementary School.  In addition to roof repairs, new pipes were installed under the driveway between these two buildings to ensure the ability to properly heat Jefferson during the upcoming cold months. Construction plans are well underway and can be viewed on our district webpage under the tab labeled “Construction.”

The newest building to the district, located in Willoughby at 34343 Euclid Avenue, will open and will house Welding, Cosmetology, Auto Collision, Auto Services, Business Academy, Travel, Tourism and Hotel Management, Bridge to Success and Success Academy.  The new building on Euclid Avenue, and the former Kennedy on Glen Drive, will be known as the Northern Career Institute, Willoughby and Eastlake campuses.  These schools will offer training opportunities to school age students during the day and adults during the evening hours.

We held several Professional Development sessions during the summer and they were well attended by our staff members.  Teachers and district administrators have been working to sharpen their skills in order to maintain academic excellence in the classrooms.  In addition to our teaching staff and their work during the summer months, many other district employees were in our schools preparing for the arrival of your children.  With incredible effort and organization, the Willoughby-Eastlake employees have worked hard and eagerly await the arrival of students.

I am looking forward to another year of growth and student success in Willoughby-Eastlake.  Thank you for allowing our staff to play an integral role in the lives of your children.

Sincerely,

Stephen L. Thompson
