Clinic

The goal of Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools Health Services is to strengthen and facilitate the educational opportunity of each student by improving and protecting the health status of children and staff.

Staff

The District has 5 full-time school nurses who provide nursing services in each of the primary and secondary schools. Each school nurse has completed a four-year bachelor’s degree in nursing, holds a current Registered Nurse license, and is required to have an Ohio Department of Education School Nurse License. Our school clinics are staffed by Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), or trained Health Aides, all of whom hold current First Aid and CPR certifications. RNs serve on a part-time basis and oversee multiple clinics across the district. When an RN is not on-site, an LPN or Health Aide is available to address student health needs.

Role of the School Nurse

School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self management, self advocacy, and learning (definition from National Association of School Nurses).

The school nurse provides the following services:

* Care for urgent illness or injury
* Management of chronic health conditions with guidance from private health provider
* Administration of prescribed medication
* Management and monitoring of communicable diseases
* Preventative and early identification services including state mandated screening programs for vision and scoliosis
* Immunization and health record compliance
* Identification, assessment, evaluation, planning, and intervention of specialized health concerns
* Health education, promotion, and planning
* School/Community health care provider liaison

Please contact the nurse if you have any health concerns about your child, or click on the links above for further information.

The school nurse, through the Health Service Program, supplements the efforts of the parent/guardian and health care providers to establish and maintain the health and welfare of students. The program is not therapeutic and does not replace parent/guardian responsibility to obtain health care.

Please note: CHILDREN WHO ARE ABSENT FROM SCHOOL OR LEAVE SCHOOL EARLY DUE TO ILLNESS MAY NOT ATTEND OR PARTICIPATE IN EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND/OR EVENING EVENTS WITHOUT THE PRIOR APPROVAL OF THE BUILDING PRINCIPAL.
