Congratulations to John Matteucci Sr.!

Huge congratulations to John Matteucci Sr. on his induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame! In 1948 he bacame the first 3 time Ohio State Wrestling Champion during his high school career at Cleveland West High School. From there he went on to wrestle at Ohio State University and graduated in 1955. Matteucci introduced wrestling to Wiloughby-Eastlake's school distric and became Eastlake North High School's first wrestling coach in 1958. He remained as coach until 1990, finishing with a 262-148-5 record. He coached 31 individual state placers and six individual state champions as well as a team state championship in 1975. He was elected to the Ohio Wrestling Coache's Hall Of Fame in 1978. Matteucci passed away in 2001, but his teaching on the mat and in the classroom live on through the young lives he touched during his time at Eastlake North.
