Willoughby Middle School Receives Momentum Award

Willoughby Middle School was awarded a Momentum Award from the Ohio Department of Education, because we showed significant improvement in growth and achievement on the Ohio School Report Cards for the 2022-23 school year!

Here is what this means:

  • Our overall school rating has improved to a 3.5 out of a possible 5!
  • Our overall performance index went up 6.3% from the 21-22 to 22-23 school year!
  • Our progress rating improved to a 4 out of a possible 5!

Here is some perspective and context:

  • We are 1 of 2 schools in our district to receive this award
  • Approximately 70 middle schools in Ohio received this award
  • There are 611 school districts in Ohio
  • Many districts have multiple middle schools...so, I'll leave the math to our math department!

Thank you to our entire team-our teachers, support staff, student monitors, and students-for their unwavering commitment to excellence every single day. Also, thank you to our Warrior Families for playing an active role in their child's education. Without the collective effort of all these individuals, we would not be able to make the progress we are making!

Student Achievement is on the Rise at WMS!

The 2022-23 state report card came out and WMS has some wonderful news to share:
  • Overall student achievement at WMS rose 5.1% last school year!
  • We increased an entire metric/star in progress!
  • If we show this much growth next year, we will increase an entire metric/"star" on the state report card!
These are amazing achievements for one school year! Ultimately, this means that more students are learning more often, which is our aim as a school and district! We are so proud of our staff and students who have worked so hard to live up to our core values every single day. THANK YOU to our parents and family support for playing an active role helping us to achieve this goal.

Sweets for Soldiers and Veterans at WMS

The "Sweets for Soldiers and Veterans" collection was a HUGE success!  Thank you, Warriors, for participating and showing your patriotic spirit.  Through your generosity, twelve "Thank You" baskets will be delivered to local Veteran organizations listed in the Veteran showcase in the cafeteria.  Donated candy will also be used in the care package that will be sent to deployed soldiers during the first week of December.  What an awesome way to give back!
