Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education ACT, as amended (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.
Title 1, Part A funds are distributed to school districts based on four distinct funding formulas as affected by census poverty data. Districts determine which eligible buildings are to participate based on federal requirements and local decisions. Targeted Assistance buildings must direct services to specific students. School wide buildings may use the funds for school wide activities intended to improve outcomes across the building. The purpose of this funding is to provide supplemental funding to economically disadvantaged districts and some of their eligible schools for improving educational outcomes for students who are failing or at risk of failing to meet State standards.
In the Willoughby-Eastlake City School District, Edison Elementary provides Title 1 service through a Targeted Assistance model. Grant Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, Longfellow Elementary, and Royalview Elementary provide Title 1 services through a School wide model. The focus in all of our elementary buildings is on improving K-3 Literacy by providing intensive core instruction, utilizing all of our highly trained teaching staff during the literacy block.
