Under Ohio law, 3rd grade students need to demonstrate proficiency on a reading assessment in order to be promoted to 4th grade. The reading assessment can include the AIR test or an alternate assessment approved by the state. The alternate assessment Willoughby-Eastlake offers is MAP. Our district offers the AIR test three times per year (fall, spring and summer) and MAP testing three times per year (fall, winter, spring). If a child demonstrates proficiency on one of these assessments, s/he will be promoted to 4th grade.
