As a second grade team, our goal is to improve student achievement in all areas. We provide an environment to maximize learning and we promote parent participation to take that learning even further. The main areas of focus in second grade are reading, writing, phonics, and math.
In reading and writing, our district uses the Wonders curriculum, which includes selections from various genres to improve comprehension when reading all different types of texts. For phonics/spelling instruction our district uses Fundations. In this program, your child will work daily with hands-on activities as they improve their ability to read and spell words.
Our math curriculum is the My Math series. This program teaches math skills using technology and hands-on activities in daily lessons. Students can access the My Math portal from home to practice math facts, print homework, view classroom activities, and more!
In second grade your child will explore science and social studies topics. We will do hands-on experiments that will increase the student's understanding. In social studies we will study citizenship, geography, history, and economics.
