School of Innovation 2019 - 2020 Application Process

SCHOOL OF INNOVATION ADMISSIONS AND LOTTERY PROCESS

Incoming Third Graders for 2019-2020

The School of Innovation engages students and teachers in innovative approaches to problem-solving with a focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students receive instruction in all content areas, as well as music, art and physical education, and much of the content is presented through a trans-disciplinary approach. Band begins at fifth grade. The students participate in flexible grouping depending upon their skills, interests and the units of instruction. Once students reach the middle school grades, they will return to their home school for sports. The School of Innovation, also referred to as SOI, serves as a model learning environment for other schools in our district, the county, the state and the nation.

Message From the Principal 1/11/19

January brings a new year and a fresh start. We kicked off 2019 with our Dream Big January theme, “Inspirational People.” Students shared their inspirations when they met in their Dream Teams on January 9th.

We are gearing up for the excitement of our third annual One School One Book program. Our book title will be revealed in a few weeks, and the program will take place in February. One School One Book builds a community of readers through a shared reading experience at home, and it’s supported by exciting activities at school. It is kind of like a really big book club! More info to come!

We’re selling Kidstuff Coupon Books through January 25th. All information will be sent home today. These valuable, family-friendly books are filled with hundreds of national, regional and local coupons for all ages. The Kidstuff Coupon Book is conveniently organized, offers incredible savings, and it is sold exclusively through schools. Our school earns 50%+ profit for each book we sell. Families can save hundreds of dollars while supporting our school. Use just a few coupons and easily save more than $25, the cost of the book. We suggest keeping it in your car so it is always with you! Most coupons are long-term and valid for 16 months. If you do not wish to participate, please send your sample book back to school! Thank you!

Longfellow Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

I hope that you are all having a wonderful summer. Construction for our new building opening 2019-2020 has begun!

In order to maintain the safety of our visitors and students during construction, it is necessary to change the car and bus traffic pattern at Longfellow Elementary. We will continue to use the same bookbag tag and parent pickup loop procedures when dismissing students. Please read the attached letter from Superintendent Thompson and Mayor Morley describing the changes for cars, buses, and walkers. A map is also attached for your review.
